Volunteer with Homeland

Homeland’s compassionate care would not be the same without the support of our kind and generous volunteers. No medical knowledge is required, just a kind heart, good sense of humor, good judgment, dependability, and a little bit of your time. Whether you choose to volunteer with Homeland Center or Homeland Hospice, you will make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve.

Volunteer Orientation and Training

Homeland Hospice offers a self-study volunteer orientation, allowing you to complete training at home, at your own pace and on your own schedule. Or you can meet one-on-one with the volunteer coordinator to review the training information. Ongoing training is provided online, via newsletter and in-person to continue to enhance your skills and create opportunities to meet and interact with other volunteers. This does not apply to Homeland Center.

FAQs

Homeland Hospice volunteers who interact directly with patients provide companionship and join patients in a variety of activities such as reading, playing cards or games, listening to music together and reminiscing. Volunteers also may help with simple household activities and running errands. Perhaps most important, volunteers provide emotional support – to the patient and the family – including giving family members short breaks. Learn more by reading this volunteer story.

Assisting behind-the-scenes in our Hospice office may involve scanning documents into medical records, assisting with mailings and making phone calls.

Volunteers help Homeland Hospice provide extra care and services to our patients and families by making home-cooked meals (soups, casseroles), quilts, cards, artwork and more.

Absolutely and we are always open to ideas! Do you have a beautiful flower garden and want to share bouquets? Are you able to cut hair and/or provide manicures? (Current PA license needed.) Perhaps you enjoy baking and would like to make and deliver cupcakes for patient birthdays!

Your volunteer schedule can be as flexible as you need it to be. Serve several times a week, once a week, or once or twice a month. You can determine the distance you are willing to drive to volunteer as well.
