Homeland Center has a proud history of caring that began in the aftermath of the Civil War, when soldiers’ wives, widows and parents struggled to provide for dependent family members without the support of dead and disabled husbands and sons.
From our very beginning, when we were charted as the “Society for the Home for the Friendless,” honoring those who have served and sacrificed for our country has been a Homeland tradition.
Homeland celebrates Veterans in many ways:
Vet to Vet Café – Homeland hosts a monthly gathering, known as Vet to Vet Café, in Homeland Center’s 1950s-style diner, where Veterans and their families connect with others who understand the sacrifices of military service. Read about one of the gatherings.
Pinning Ceremonies – We host pinning ceremonies, during which residents and patients who are Veterans receive a pin and certificate reflecting the military branch in which they served. Read about one of our pinning ceremonies.
Wreaths Across America — Every December, Homeland Hospice participates in Wreaths Across America by leading a wreath-laying ceremony at Dauphin County Cemetery to remember the sacrifices made by Veterans. Read more about our support of Wreaths Across America.
